Passionate about policy development, she brings a thoughtful approach to integrating First Nations perspectives into business practices.

Kate Spencer is the Senior Policy and Strategy Consultant at YarnnUp, where she shapes strategic direction and written communications. With a Bachelor of Economics (Social Science) and a Master of International Studies, Kate has a rich background across the Federal government and financial services sectors, bringing deep insights into policy and strategic consulting.

Kate’s work focuses on helping organisations integrate First Nations perspectives into their business strategies. Her expertise in strategic policy initiatives and stakeholder communication ensures that every project reflects YarnnUp’s values of reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion. Kate is passionate about crafting clear, impactful narratives and advancing corporate social responsibility.

Before YarnnUp, Kate worked in the Federal government and financial services, focusing on strategic communications, stakeholder management, and high-level reporting. Her experience navigating complex environments gives her the tools to support YarnnUp’s clients in achieving meaningful, transformative change.

Born and raised on Gadigal land in Sydney, Kate has a deep connection to her community, which continues to inspire her work. Her travels and time spent in Melbourne and Seoul give her a global perspective, enriching her approach to social change.

Outside of work, Kate loves spending time with her family and exploring Sydney’s beaches. Her dedication to social impact drives her work at YarnnUp, helping clients build a future that honours diverse perspectives and promotes inclusion.

Where do you feel your place or ‘home’ is?

Sydney is home, particularly because it is near the beautiful beaches and I’m lucky to live amongst busy and vibrant suburbs where heritage meets today.

Who are the most important people in your world?

My family! My three children, husband and I’m lucky to still have my parents. I have a wonderful extended family with inlaws, nieces and nephews and cousins all over the world.

What is something you love doing?

Being in saltwater! Anywhere around the world.
