YarnnUp Artist Protocols & Support
Acknowledgement of Country
We acknowledge the Ancestors and spirits who have cared for this land since time immemorial.
We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and honour First Nations peoples as the Custodians of land, waters, and skies.
Storytelling is at the centre of who we are. It connects past, present, and future.
We walk alongside First Nations communities, amplifying voices and working toward a future of cultural strength, celebration, and justice.
Always was. Always will be.
Introduction
These protocols guide how YarnnUp works with First Nations artists.
They are here to make sure:
- Culture is respected
- Artists are safe and supported
- Stories are carried with care
This is about relationships with Country, with community, and with each other.
Cultural Protocols
Our work must sit in cultural safety. These protocols make sure that culture leads the process, and that artists are respected at every step.
Cultural Oversight
We walk under First Nations guidance. Cultural oversight ensures the project stays strong and grounded.
- First Nations leadership guides all decisions
- Cultural advisors are present throughout the process
- Protocols are reviewed regularly to remain strong and relevant
Cultural Safety
Artists carry authority for their own stories. YarnnUp creates space where that authority is protected and respected.
- Artists keep full control of their stories and knowledge
- Nothing is used without clear consent
- Artists can step back at any time if concerns arise
- Consultation is ongoing so that artists are never excluded
Intellectual Property
Cultural knowledge is not owned by others. These protections ensure stories remain with the people who carry them.
- Artists own their cultural knowledge and stories
- Licensing agreements are clear and fair
- Proper credit is always given
- Usage guidelines include cultural rules
Story Protocols
Stories hold power. They teach, connect, and guide. These protocols keep stories safe and make sure they are shared in the right way.
Respect for Story
Only certain stories can be shared. This section makes clear how to protect what is sacred.
- Only share stories you have the authority to tell
- Sacred or restricted knowledge is not used
- Community consultation is encouraged where needed
- Guidance is available if there is uncertainty
Cultural Authenticity
Authenticity matters more than style or trend. Each artist’s voice is valued.
- Genuine cultural expression is respected
- Both traditional and contemporary styles are supported
- Diversity of First Nations voices is honoured
- Each artist’s own expression is celebrated

Artists need cultural and professional support to thrive. YarnnUp provides both, so artists feel held throughout the process.

Guiding Principles
These protocols are shaped by YarnnUp’s Trilogy of Transformational Intelligence™.
- Custodial Ethos: Hold long-term care for Country, culture, and community.
- Relationality: Relationships come first. Trust before outcomes.
- Positionality: Know where you stand and what you are responsible for.
These principles ensure the work remains safe, respectful, and culturally strong.
