Parkline Place: Connecting with Country in the Workplace

YarnnUp began with the site itself, conducting site analysis and desktop research alongside consultation with community and project stakeholders. This grounding work established a shared understanding of place that the design team could work from with confidence. From that foundation we developed a Connecting with Country narrative framework for the three levels, interweaving cultural continuity with sustainability so that the two operated as a single design idea rather than separate considerations. The framework gave Davenport Campbell a clear cultural reference point to test decisions against as the design progressed. We then worked with the design team on material selection, identifying materials with a direct relationship to this Country. Eucalyptus bark and Sydney Red Gum were chosen to reflect First Nations traditions and to carry the cultural narrative into the physical fabric of the workplace, where it is experienced rather than simply explained. To communicate the framework beyond the design team, YarnnUp produced an animation bringing the design principles to life.
